As parents, we always aim to do the upmost best for our children.

Whether that be providing advice, which can also be misconstrued as mandatory advice to follow in some Nigerian households, or singing them up to Saturday school.

Sometimes they appreciate it, sometimes you catch them giving you a bombastic side eye, before they realise you have eyes in the back of your head :)

Three years ago I signed my youngest up to attend Croydon Supplementary Education Project, to help build his academic self. At first, he wasn't too keen especially as it coincided with a football Club, but he stuck with it.

I could see his self confidence begin to grow, he started to share all the knowledge he gained from his science and his Black History classes. He fell back in love with Maths and became less hesitant about English.

He became sọ adept in articulating his thoughts he provided a balanced argument as to whether Winston Churchill should be deemed a hero?

As with every year Croydon Supplementary Education Project held their end of year awards ceremony, and my baby boy scooped up:

Student of the year

Science student of the year

Art Student of the year

Maths Student of the year

To say, I am proud is an understatement, but the true joy was seeing the level of self-pride he had in his well earned accomplishments.

As with coaching, once the individual realises their potential they can move forward to achieve it.

Immense thanks to all the teachers and staff at Croydon Supplementary Education Project and especially Jacinth Martin
